about
Leading up to her sophomore EP release ‘Apples’, Moon Saloon delivers her first single of the year ‘Look Alive’. The song pulls the listener in with a laid-back, electronic mood before the opening line “I’ve got friends who make-believe...”
Lyrically, the inspiration for the song came from a spam email that landed in Charlie’s inbox. The broken English didn't make much sense but did seem to string together themes of false friendship and "simulated meaning". It was enough to incite the first verse. The chorus then presents a reply “We’ve got to look alive, babe”, an encouragement to be aware of spam, yes, but also a boost to stay true to oneself, despite the environments we find ourselves.
Recorded at Empire Studios and co-produced by Charlie alongside Jarryd Shuker, Look Alive is out on February 17th.
lyrics
I’ve got friends who make-believe
Drink and dine and then they reap
All of these loaned words, to rescue the moment, and we
Fill up on meaning that looks alike and we say we feel alive
Does anyone notice the, the real and the phoney
We got to look alive babe
I’ve got a match to light baby
I’ve got to pull my head together
Never mind the neighbourhood
We gotta go,
We gotta go go go
Sitting honest in a chair
Got one go, the weight to bear
And all of the options which way I could go in, I know
There are more reasons to know what to do, hesitate to know the truth
Want to roll with the punches, but can’t let go of these crutches
We got to look alive babe
I’ve got a match to light baby
I’ve gotta pull my head together
Never mind the neighbourhood
We got to look alive babe
I’ve got a match to light baby
I gotta pull my head together
Never mind the neighbourhood
We gotta go,
We gotta go go go
Want to roll with the punches, but I like holding these crutches
Want to roll with the punches, but I like holding these crutches
We got to look alive babe
I’ve got a match to light baby
I’ve gotta pull my head together
Never mind the neighbourhood
We got to look alive babe
I’ve got a match to light baby
I gotta pull my head together
Never mind the neighbourhood
We gotta go,
We gotta go go go
